DIFFSYS future plans
Please tell us what you need. Here are some ideas of things we could do, if customers want them ...
1. Calculate aspheric terms
Calculate the aspheric terms from an imported measurement. We’ve had a go at this one, but haven’t finished it yet. It is not as easy as we thought!
2. Import IGES, DXF files etc
This will get done one day, depending on the demand.
3. Import Optical Design Data
e.g. from Zemax of CodeV. This could be done, although, the machine shop rarely gets access to these files.
4. Automatic Prolog & Epilog
Automatically generate M&G codes. Just type in the spindle speed, number of passes, cut depths etc.
5. Diffractive measurement corrections
As well as aspheres, you will be able to measure a diffractive surface e.g. with a Talysurf, and DIFFSYS will a) correct the underlying asphere or flat, b) measure the step heights and positions, and automatically shift them.
6. Steps, slopes and edge features on 3D surfaces
Currently only available for 2D surfaces.
7. Minimizing Z-travel with Slow-tool-servo
Currently the program generates either a perfect spiral cut on the surface, or a perfect spiral toolpath (to eliminate tool X-oscillations). There are other possibilities between these two, which would minimize tool Z-travel in certain cases.
DIFFSYS custom modifications
We are always pleased to make modifications to DIFFSYS for your special requirements. Here are some examples of work we have done for individual customers:

Top: Plan view of a bi-directional 3D spiral.
Middle: Polishing correction calculations.
Bottom: The toolpath of an oscillating bonnet on an off-axis asphere.
